It's one of the key elements that ensures a space remains organized, functional, and compliant with the Fire Code.

Winter brings a unique set of challenges to homeowners, from heavy snowfalls to freezing temperatures. While we all love the cozy warmth provided by our home heating systems, it's important to recognize that certain seasonal conditions can introduce hidden risks—one of which is carbon monoxide (CO) buildup. This colourless, odorless gas can be deadly if not managed properly.

Emergency lighting is a non-negotiable element of fire and life safety in buildings. The Ontario Building Code requires buildings regulated under Part 3 to be provided with emergency lighting in many locations including all exits, in access to exits in open areas, and in public corridors. . This essential safety feature ensures that in the event of a power outage, occupants can evacuate safely.

When it comes to life and fire safety systems, integrated systems testing (IST) is rapidly becoming a must-have step in building projects. Building officials are increasingly requiring IST to ensure these critical systems work seamlessly together during emergencies. While the requirement for IST has been present in the National Building Code of Canada and most provincial Codes since 2010, its enforcement has been steadily gaining momentum in recent years.
